SINGING

At WAPA we encourage each student to find their voice and to express themselves through song, rhythm and music. Young voices are nurtured and encouraged to  develop through repetition of simple fun exercises that they can practice at home. Vocal exercises develop students aural skills and pitch, timing and sense of rhythm and musicality, projection, articulation and control whilst older students continue to develop good vocal technique to care from their voices into adulthood and are introduced to Alexander technique, singing in harmony, improvisation, song writing, how to control tonal resonance and the timbre of their voice, how to extend and strengthen their range, microphone technique and musical interpretation and performance skills.

Classes begin with a variety of vocal exercises to develop good vocal technique. Students are then introduced to a wide selection of songs from current west end and classic musicals from stage and screen in addition to the latest current chart tracks. Once songs have been learnt within the group students are encouraged to perform them as soloists or in small groups for the class. We always go at each individual students own pace and encourage quieter members to perform on their own only as and when they are ready. Even the quietest student blossoms from the strong dynamic of the group during vocal harmonies where every voice is vital to create the whole full sound. When we work together and achieve this it is a truly magical experience and every student leaves on a high! We like to give our students the chance to work on lots of different songs throughout the year to expand their repertoire and technique.
